Abstract: The former home of the Swedish Ambassador in Washington DC is also the most expensive property in the US capital.

The 11,212 square foot property, priced at $19.5 million, has been on the market for over a month and has had a provisional offer.

The house belongs to the Swedish government and is right next to the American University, which is all too rare.

The really outstanding feature is that the three lots make up 6.7 acres.

At the back of the property there is a lighted tennis court where they would do some fundraising events for famous tennis players to come and play.

The mansion was built in 1925 and the interior has been modified over the years.

The exterior has always been Mediterranean-Spanish with a terracotta roof, but the interior has undergone some updating over the years and it was time for a renovation.

There are seven bedrooms, seven full bathrooms and three half bathrooms.

The house is unique in that it was designed for grand entertaining and private living.

Although it was used as an ambassador's residence, they had a commercial kitchen that they used when entertaining.

This is not your typical residence, the upper floor is family quarters and at this price point it is certainly not your average property.

The ground floor is a commercial kitchen with a wing for support staff.

A formal library and a ballroom (yes, a ballroom) are also on the main floor.

There is a second kitchen upstairs.

The property is only 20 minutes from Reagan National Airport and has a circular driveway for easy access to the residence, perfect for guests arriving by chauffeur.

The mansion has arched windows and doors, hardwood floors, a grand staircase, window seats, several fireplaces and a wood-paneled library.

The rooms are spacious and have many windows.

The area in which the house is located is low density, so the zoning is residential.

Nebraska Avenue is a major artery. On one side of the house is a church and on the other side is the property of the Japanese Embassy.

It is located in the American University Park, which is a very desirable area.

It is also within walking distance to Spring Valley which has local markets and boutiques. It is not the centre of downtown Washington but it is a very beautiful area.
